Practical guide

Leave with clear medicine and follow-up instructions

Before leaving the hospital or China, confirm what each medicine is, how it should be used, what needs monitoring and who should manage care after return.

Medicine availability, prescription rules and rules for carrying medicines across borders vary. Confirm with the treating clinician, hospital pharmacy, airline and destination authorities.

At the hospital pharmacy

  • Match the patient name and prescription before paying
  • Confirm the generic name, brand name, dose, schedule and duration
  • Ask about storage, missed doses, interactions and warning signs
  • Keep medicines in original labeled packaging
  • Request a medicine list or prescription copy that a local clinician can review

Before returning home

Prepare enough information

Carry the discharge summary, current medicine list, key reports and follow-up schedule.

Check travel rules

Confirm airline restrictions, refrigeration needs and destination-country import rules before travel.

Arrange local care

Identify a licensed clinician who can assess the patient and continue monitoring after return.

Confirm hospital contact

Ask which secure channel to use for non-urgent questions and whether remote review is available.

If something changes

New or worsening symptoms need clinical assessment. Contact local emergency services for urgent problems. Do not wait for an email response or rely on a website to interpret symptoms.
